the industries you are targeting, a path must be frst identifed and the
content of your resume must then follow the path.
As we learned in Step Two, prior to building the resume, it
is essential to defne your path. Defning your path means
clearly distinguishing your strengths (skills).
I bet you possess more than one strength (skill). For in-
stance, an HR manager also acquires skills in customer
service, customer service management, account manage-
ment, recruitment, and administration. An effective resume
highlights strengths by extracting each skill and clearly
separating them from each other prior to creating the re-
sume.
Imagine a person who possesses skills in Product Manage-
ment yet this person also possesses strengths in Customer
Service, and has knowledge of Recruitment.
If skills were fruits and vegetables, we extract the juice
separating them into different cups. Let’s pretend the fol-
lowing:
product management is

customer service is

recruitment is

A focused path gets you more responses
than an unfocused path
What is the
path?
The path was
identifed in
Step Two. It is
the area identi-
fed at the very
top of the re-
sume and gov-
erns the content
of your resume.
Today, to at-
tract employers
in precisely the
industries you
are targeting,
a path must be
frst identifed
and the content
of your resume
must then fol-
low the path.
