STEP FOUR
Build Your Resume
When the employer drank from the cup (reviewed your
resume), you were there in person to highlight the fa-
vors. “This does not taste right. What is this? Why do
you think your qualifcations would be a match for this
position?” asked the employer.
And if the employer had a preference for
orange
juice
(customer service), you could remind the em-
ployer: “Well, don’t you taste the orange juice? I have
a lot of orange juice in me (I possess skills in customer
service)”—you helped the employer better understand
your strengths as they related to their job requirements.
But today your resume has to do the talking for you. You
are no longer there in to distinguish the favors while the
employer reviews your resume. Therefore, we are go-
ing to extract each skill for the employer. Remember the
burden is on us to communicate our skills precisely in the
manner we intend to present ourselves.
Nothing should be left to guesswork or chance.
